Is your Conscience under anesthesia
It is not humanly possible for us to see our souls, they
are a spiritual part of our humanity which remains hidden
and can only be seen with the eyes of the spirit.
And yet the Spirit is also invisible and can only be felt
and experienced by the spiritual person, that is, one that
listens to the Word of God and is guided by the Holy Spirit.
(John 14:26) But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the
Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and
will remind you of everything I have said to you.
If we are not spiritual, then we start believing that we are
perfect, it is the same as if we are going blind and look at
ourselves in a mirror, so we create our own beautiful image
and we see it perfect. (Galatians 6:3) For if anyone thinks
he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
So we are truly fooling ourselves when we make high opinions
of ourselves
before God. We think that we see correctly when in effect we
are blind. (John 9:41) Jesus said to them, If you were
blind, you would have no sin: but because you say that you
can see, your sin remains.
(Matthew 23:26) "You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside
of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may
become clean also.
As we come before God who is the truth, we must be totally
humble, we cannot hide anything from God, we cannot judge
ourselves good, since He has said that He alone is good
(Mark 10:18)
Jesus says I am the truth, the way and the life (John 14:6),
therefore we will only be speaking the truth about ourselves
when we speak in the light of the truth. We can only speak
humbly before God when we are in Jesus the truth is in us,
otherwise any opinions about ourselves are worthless.
When we are spiritually blind we fill ourselves with pride,
the enemy becomes our adviser and he makes sure that we
don’t come back to the truth otherwise we may repent and
change.
I think most people are under the illusion that they are
doing very well in the spiritual life, they accommodate
religion according to their wants, they will carry out some
quick spiritual works and create for themselves and opinion
of righteousness before God, this is what I call
anesthesia for your conscience. I think it is self
deceit.
I am writing this to challenge you to examine your
conscience and look with a magnifying glass, to check the
condition of your soul, because we must be very humble
before God. Jesus says: do not judge and you will not be
judged. Then He is also saying to us: do not judge
yourselves. (Luke 6:37)
When the body is under anesthesia there is no pain, no
sensation, the body can be destroyed or killed and we don’t
feel it.
You must have heard the fable of the frog that was placed in
cold water, then the water was boiled slowly but the frog
didn’t perceive it, it was so comfortable that it was cooked
to death.
When the soul in under anesthesia, or better still, when
our conscience is under anesthesia, we cannot perceive
the wounds of the soul, in fact we feel so comfortable
spiritually that our souls can be dead in our sins and we
don’t feel any remorse, we ignore our conscience totally. We
will commit our sins and say: it’s okay, I am good, what I
am doing is not sinful, others do it too, God will be
merciful, this is just a little sin, nothing to worry, I am
doing very well.
Every time we sin our souls get wounded, we must repent and
confess our sins as soon as possible, we must heal the
wounds of our souls with the Precious Blood of Christ in the
Eucharist. If we keep repeating the same sins over and over
again, we lose sensitivity to sin, we ignore the call of our
conscience, we tranquilize it, we take anesthesia to deceive
ourselves and feel all right.
We may come easily to a very dangerous state of the soul.
I would like to tell you how the Lord showed me this
condition in a vision. “I was walking on a tightrope, it
was very high, it was a dark place, I was confident of what
I was doing, but when I looked down I saw the fire of Hell,
Jesus told me. The spiritual life is similar to this. When
you think you are very high, you can have a great fall.”
We can think of the happy fisherman who caught the big one,
but it got away.
We can think of the millionaire who suddenly went broke.
We can think of the famous, athlete who was doing perfectly
but lost at the end for making a little mistake.
We can think of the beautiful apple that is rotten inside.
The Lord calls us to examine ourselves
1 John 1: If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving
ourselves and the truth is not in us.
The Lord calls us to stay awake:
Ephesians 5:14 This is why it is said: "Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
Acts 2:37-38 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to
the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,
"Brethren, what shall we do?" 38 Peter said to them,
"Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.…
We conclude with the words of Saint Paul:
Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have
always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in
my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear
and trembling.
What is next? How to cure yourself
