The Holy Father John Paul the Second, holds a
very profound Marian Devotion. His love for the Blessed Virgin Mary
and for the Church led him to the addition of the New Mysteries of
Light to the Holy Rosary in October 2002.
To celebrate his Pontificate of 24 years, the
Holy Father declared the Year of the Holy Rosary from October 2002 to
October 2003 and announced the new mysteries.
For more than 400 years, the format of the
Rosary has been the same, that is three main Mysteries: joyful,
sorrowful and glorious. Following the inspiration of Blessed George
Preca (Dun George) a Maltese priest beatified in 2001, the Holy Father
announced this addition to the Holy Rosary.
In his document, the Holy Father said he respected the traditional
form of the Rosary and did not want to change it.
So these new mysteries can be said voluntarily by
the faithful either on Sundays or Thursdays. Their meditation can
also be included as you pray other mysteries.
The main fruit of this mysteries is derived from
their meditation, which is a source of high spirituality.
As you pray these Mysteries of Light, or any
other mysteries of the Rosary, place great emphasis on the meditations
and live those moments of the Life of Christ and their influence in
our lives.
