Jesus Christ Divine Mercy
The greatest attribute of
God is His Divine Mercy. To have mercy on someone means to see the
suffering and misery of the that person and to come to his or her
assistance.
Because of the original
sin of our first parents, the human race was separated from God, and
that distance is the cause of our sufferings. Sin is a great wall that
stops us from receiving the light of God and His help, sin is like a
cloud of darkness that does not let us see beyond our limitations and
deprives us of the friendship and sight of God.
Being children of God we
became deprived of our inheritance through sin until God the Father sent
His only begotten Son to the world, to forgive our sins so that we could
be reconciled with Him and so become His beloved children once more. The
fruit of that reconciliation is Peace, the peace that Jesus Christ gave
to the Apostles in the first words that He spoke after His resurrection.
But in our own man made
beliefs, it is hard to accept the forgiveness of our sins, we sometimes
retain our guilt and despise the Divine Mercy that is offered to us.
Jesus died for our sins, and during His last moments He asked the Father
to forgive us, "Father forgive them, for they do not know what they do."
In reality we don't know
what we do when we sin, we simply justify ourselves and don't feel
enough remorse of having offended God. In order to enjoy the Kingdom of
Heaven within us, we must repent and come to the Divine Mercy for help.
We must confess our sins to a priest, which has been delegated the task
of Divine Mercy, that of forgiving our sins according to the words of
Our Lord, after His resurrection.
He appeared to the Apostles
and gave them power to forgive sins. (Also to priests, their succesors
by authority)
Jhon 20:21-23
21 He said
therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I
also send you.
22 When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he
said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost.
23 Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven
them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.
Sister Maria Faustina
Kowalska (now a canonized saint) received from Jesus the teachings of
the Divine Mercy, it is a beautiful devotion explained fully in our
Divine Mercy page. In
the words of Jesus "Were a soul like a decaying corpse, so that from a
human standpoint, there would be no hope of restoration and everything
would already be lost, it is not so with God. The miracle of Divine
Mercy restores that soul in full... From this fount of Divine Mercy
souls draw graces solely with the vessel of trust. If their trust is
great, there is no limit to My generosity."
