GOD'S BLESSING

Jesus is our blessing

(Mark 16:14-15) And the Lord said to the Apostles: Go into all the world and preach the Good News to the whole of creation.

16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. The Good News of the Gospels is that we must repent and believe in Jesus. (John 3:16) Because God loved the world so much that He sent his only begotten Son into the world so that anyone who believes in will not perish but will be saved. And to believe in Him is to follow his commandments and accept Him as our Way, Truth and Life.

Jesus is the great blessing of God sent from Heaven to redeem us.

The Passover meal of the Israelites was the symbolic coming of the Son of God to save us. They had to eat the flesh of the Lamb and put his blood on the doorposts of their houses in order to be spared from the punishment of God.

We the new Israel made up of those who believe in Christ have to eat his flesh and drink his blood so that the doors of our hearts will be marked with the blood of the Lamb of God, in order to be spared from the anger of God. (John 6:53-59)

54 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you.

55 He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day.

56 For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed.

57 He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, abides in me, and I in him.

58 As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eats me, the same also shall live by me.

59 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He that eats this bread, shall live for ever.

Jesus is with us in the consecrated bread and wine which he entrusted to the apostles as a sacrament of His Presence. (1 Corinthians 11:23-27)

23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread.

24 And giving thanks, broke, and said: Take you, and eat: this is my body, which shall be delivered for you: this do for the commemoration of me.

25 In like manner also the chalice, after he had supped, saying: This chalice is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as often as you shall drink, for the commemoration of me.

26 For as often as you shall eat this bread, and drink the chalice, you shall show the death of the Lord, until he come.

27 Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord.

Jesus has left a sacrament of His Presence in the Holy Eucharist celebrated in the Catholic Church which is the Church founded on Peter the Rock, by his own choice.

This is our great blessing, to have faith in God who has sent his Son who has commanded us to trust Him in this holy sacrament of his Presence. Every time we receive him worthily we are celebrating his victory over sin and death and the joy of our redemption. 

Abraham was justified by his faith in God, Mary was justified also by believing in God's word, we are justified by believing in the words of Jesus and then putting them into action: "eat my flesh and drink my blood".

Are we hungry to come to the Lord's table worthily and frequently?
Do we truly understand the holy mystery of God's blessing in His Son our Lord Jesus Christ? 
Can we see how we are the privileged people of God who can taste and see the goodness of the Lord by eating the bread of life and drinking of the cup of salvation?
Emmanuel: God is with us. Are we with Him?

Abraham was the first person to receive the great blessing of God making him the Father of all nations, Jesus being the son of God is the new Adam the favourite of God the Father in whom his favour rests. (Galatians 3:13-14)

13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written: Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree:

14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus: that we may receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.
