Padre Pio - The
Saint of the stigmata
- Born in Pietrelcina, Italy on May 25, 1887
Died on September 23, 1968
Padre Pio was born to Giuseppa and Grazio Forgione, in the small village of Pietrelcina in
Italy. From childhood it was evident that he was a special child of God. He was baptized
at Our Lady of The Angels Church.
Padre Pio, a humble Capuchin priest who served in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, had a very
strong devotion for the Holy Mass. He would spend hours celebrating the mass in an ecstasy
of Love.
-
- He also loved our Blessed Mother and was always praying the Holy Rosary. He would
spend up to sixteen hours sometimes in the confessional, people would come from all over
the world to have a confession with this holy priest who could read souls.
-
- He received the blessing of the stigmata on Friday, September 20, 1918. These
wounds lasted the fifty years of his life. He is the only priest known in church history
to have suffered the wounds of Christ. His wounds were said to have the odor of perfume.
He was known for the gift of bilocation . He also was instrumental in many conversions,
reading of souls and many physical cures. These cures are said to be continuing even to
this day through Padre Pio's intercession.
Padre Pio's advise: Pray, hope and don't worry.
